Privacy Policy

ApolloShell has no analytics and no tracking, and the app does not send anything about you or your Mac to me. The one place with an account is the optional Marketplace, where you sign in with GitHub to share themes; it is described below.

The app

Your settings, pinned apps, layout and themes are stored only on your Mac, under ~/Library/Application Support/ApolloShell. System information such as battery, Bluetooth, network, CPU and the song that is playing is read on your Mac and never leaves it.

The app makes these network requests:

• Weather. The coordinates of the place you chose go to the weather service you picked: Open-Meteo, MET Norway or wttr.in. ApolloShell does not use your Mac's location.
• Place search. When you search for a place, the text you type goes to the Open-Meteo geocoding service.
• Updates. The app asks GitHub whether a new version exists.

These services see your IP address, as any website would. Their own privacy policies apply.

The website

This site is hosted on GitHub Pages. GitHub may log your IP address for security; see the GitHub Privacy Statement. To show the star count, your browser asks the GitHub API once per session and keeps the number in session storage. The site sets no cookies and loads no fonts or scripts from other servers.

The Marketplace

The Marketplace lets you install themes made by other people and, if you want, share your own. You can browse and install without an account. Sharing needs you to sign in with GitHub.

Sign in. The app uses GitHub's device flow with no scopes, so it can read only your public GitHub profile. When you sign in, the Marketplace stores your GitHub numeric id, your login name and your avatar URL, plus the themes you submit and the records of any moderation. It never sees your email or your password, and it cannot write to your GitHub account. Your sign-in session is kept in your Mac's keychain.

What you publish. A theme you submit is a small text file (colours and sizes) plus its name and description. Once approved it is public, shown with your GitHub login name as the author.

Downloads and reports. Installing a theme needs no account and is not tied to you. When you report a theme, no account is needed and no IP address is stored; a short-lived one-way fingerprint of your network and the day is kept for about two days only to limit abuse.

Where it runs. The Marketplace runs on Cloudflare, which processes the requests and may handle them in the United States under the EU-US and Swiss-US Data Privacy Framework. GitHub is the sign-in provider. Their own privacy policies apply.

Your choices. You can sign out, and you can delete your account from inside the app, which removes your account and your submitted themes from the Marketplace. Themes other people already installed stay on their Macs. You have the right to access, correct or delete your data, and to complain to a supervisory authority (in Switzerland the FDPIC, in the EU your local authority).
